Prof. Paul Y F Lee received his medical degree (MB BCh) from Cardiff University, Wales, UK. During his higher surgical training, he has become a certified Member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (MFSEM) and Fellow in the European (FEBOT) and UK (FRCS) Trauma and Orthopaedics boards. Fully accredited by the (GMC) as a specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery.

To further develop his expertise in arthritis, complex orthopaedic surgery and regenerative medicine, he has undertaken further national fellowship training in the internationally renowned Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedics Hospital in Oswestry in association with the British Orthopaedics Association's clinical leadership programme. Working with the late Professor James Richardson, he become involve in autologous chondrocyte implantion (ACI) and adult stem cell clinical research. ( and trial)

Prof. Lee has an excellent profile in research; after completing his MSc in Sports and Exercise medicine in 2011, he was able to continue his research to a PhD level. He was awarded the Orthopaedics Travelling Fellowship in 2013 to visit the EndoKlinik, Germany and a Sports Medicine travelling fellowship in 2014 to present his work and gain further experience on Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Stem Cells & Autologous Conditioning Serum (ACS) in Australia, Lipogems in Italy.

Prof. Lee has a passion to apply clinical data and biomechanical principles to hip and knee replacement surgery. He embraces the British heritage and craftsmanship of a well planned Cemented Total Hip replacement. He completed the highly competitive prestigious Robin Ling Exeter Hip fellowship in the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital, England; it helped him to further develop his skills and learnt the original techniques from the centre which invented the Exeter Hip, impaction bone grafting and cementing since 1970. He is on the faculty for the Exeter Hip course.

Prof. Lee is on the General Medical Council, UK (GMC) specialist register for Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery. Being a double board certified Orthopaedic surgeon with specialist interests in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine and PhD, he has successfully applied his research to clinical use, for example he has treated UK premiership footballers for muscle injuries which significantly reduced their time for recovery and return to play. He has treated sports injuries in high-level athletes and has been offering performance medicine consultations, treatment and lectures to elite sports teams since 2010. His clinical interests are lower limb arthroplasty, regenerative and sports surgery, performance medicine and non-surgical treatment of arthritis.

Research:

In order to further develop education and research, Prof Lee founded LEO institute to inspire and promote education and good clinical practice. This led to the development of clinical examination courses, practical workshops and Lincolnshire Elective Orthopaedics Research Network (LEON). Prof Lee is keen to promote and support orthopaedics and sports medicine research and has supported many undergraduate and postgraduate projects.

Over the past 10 years, Prof Lee has achieved research grants of 100 000 pounds. His research interests range from cartilage research, muscle injuries, Actovegin therapy to digital patient engagement and consent. He has over 50 peer reviewed publications and editor in chief for the Journal of Arthritis. He also has most downloaded paper with Thieme Medical Publisher in 2017.
