Regenerative surgery includes those surgical interventions that help tissues to repair via biological interventions such as stem cell injections.

A dual approach

Regenerative surgery combines both surgery, such as osteotomy and cartilage repair procedures, together with stem cell techniques. This differs from regenerative medicine inasmuch as the doctor needs to be a qualified surgeon. So regenerative orthopaedics is split into two disciplines, where the injection of stem cells can be performed by doctors who are surgeons and doctors who are not, but the surgical elements require a qualified surgeon.
