KNEE REHABILITATION
|
Ignore rehab at your own peril! The last thing you want is to end up with a stiff knee. The knee joint is not just a space containing two hinged bones. It is a subtle structure, with complicated layered anatomy that facilitates movement. The inflammatory process involved in injury or surgery can cause the muscles to become inhibited or weak and the internal layers to 'glue' up - initially with gummy adhesions and later with actual scar tissue. It is imperative to maintain flexibility and range of motion. Regaining or maintaining flexibility and range of motion is more important in the early stages than regaining strength or endurance - these can always be built up later. If you go through these menu items, you will find exercises and stretches to increase range of motion, and later exercises to rebuild strength and endurance. |
