The growth spurt is that period in teenage years when an adolescent grows very suddenly.


The growth spurt and the knee

The sudden change in anatomy may lead to problems such as anterior knee pain and Osgood Schlatter's disorder. Surgeons who are dealing with knee problems in adolescents may use scoring systems to document how close the patient is to maturity, eg Tanner staging.
