B-PT-B is an abbreviation for 'bone patellar-tendon bone', referring to a technique of patellar tendon harvest for cruciate ligament reconstruction. Page updated December 2023 by Dr Sheila Strover (Clinical Editor)

The name comes from the fact that on both sides of the harvested patellar tendon a piece of bone is also harvested - at the top it is a bit from the patellar and at the bottom it is a bit from the tibia.
B-PT-B is the gold standard for a graft for reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament. A slice of patellar tendon is harvested from the patient, together with a bit of bone from the patella above and the tibia below - hence the name 'Bone Patellar-Tendon Bone' for the graft construct.
"Bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) and semitendinosus–gracilis (STG) are the commonest grafts used for ACL reconstruction."
