Surgery for synovitis - now what?
« on: March 31, 2012, 01:32:55 AM »
 Hi,

I was diagnosed with synovitis (a lot of pain & swelling on medial side) in my knee following TKA a couple years ago. OS went in & removed synovial lining & said there had been a lot of scar tissue & inflammation. It has been about 7 weeks since the surgery & some symptoms are better but I'm still having a lot of pain near the surgical incision on the medial side. Every night it is swollen up to about the size of a walnut. If I rub it, it must just aggrevate the tissue because it really hurts for a good day or more - so I try to not even touch that area.

I keep ice on the knee most of the day along with a foam brace for support. I am on my feet all day for my job but I try to take breaks fairly often. I've talked to my OS & he said it could take 3 months or so to fully heal up. To me, it seems like the pain & swelling is getting worse but I'm trying to be patient & see if it gets better in the month or so.

Has anyone had this & what did you do to help get rid of the swelling & pain?

Thanks!!
