Microfragmented adipose tissue transplantation

Written by Dr Sheila Strover on March 14, 2025

Microfragmented adipose tissue transplantation (MATT) is a cartilage repair technique.

Technique of MATT

In this technique fat is harvested from the abdomen or thigh and mechanically fragmented to release the pericyte cells that normally cling to the tiny blood vessels.

These then facilitate healing of damaged cartilage surfaces.
