UK Surgeons for arthrofibrosis/ Hoffa fat pad

Post by Kneesbelowtoes »

Hi everyone.

I'm a 30's Male and have been suffering with Hoffa syndrome / Hoffa disease / impingement and MRI's confirm arthrofibrosis and scar tissue below my kneecap within and around the fat pad. It's really limiting my life atm with inability to walk or stand for very long at all with onset of pain amd swelling.

I've spoken to a few surgeons who propose to 'trim' some fat pad, but a previous surgery which shaved some of the fat pad made my condition much worse.

Therefore i've been searching far and wide for a UK/EU surgeon who has knowledge of Arthrofibrosis and would tackle the surgery sympathetically (using a wand/cauterizer, understanding how to prevent more scar tissue). The Who's who in AF only has one UK surgeon, i was wondering if anyone knows of or can recommend any other UK surgeons with this experience.

Thanks a lot in advance!

It sounds like you are dealing with a challenging situation related to your knee condition. Finding a skilled surgeon who has experience with arthrofibrosis and can approach the surgery with care and expertise is crucial. Since you mentioned that you have already explored options and found limited information, you might consider reaching out to larger medical centers or university hospitals in the UK or EU that specialize in orthopedic surgery. They may have surgeons with the specific expertise you are looking for. Additionally, seeking recommendations from other healthcare professionals or patients who have undergone similar procedures might also lead you to the right specialist. Wishing you the best of luck in finding a surgeon who can help you effectively manage your condition. Connections Game

It is difficult to find a highly skilled and experienced doctor at a cost that is not too high.

Medics have the benefit of being able to attend world conferences and hearing and meeting the experts...

But as an interested patient one probably has to be a bit of a 'sleuth'....
For example, you can locate a publication in the medical press (eg by typing into Google 'Pubmed,PMC,Hoffa's fat pad syndrome) and looking at the most recent and applicable papers in the list - which are likely to be from the medical profession.

eg https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10251569/ - Predisposing factors for Hoffa’s fat pad syndrome: a systematic review

At the top, you will be able to glean if the authors are surgeons, physiotherapists etc and where they were working when the
and then go down to the References list at the bottom. That will give an idea of who is publishing in this field, and also how recently they may have published.

When you find a name cropping up a lot, you can Google who the person is and where they work and what their specific interest in the topic is....
