Dr. unable to get hardware out

I had an HTO and OATs 3 years ago. Last year I had surgery to try and remove the plate and screws (along with scare tissue) because Dr. believed hardware could be part of my pain. Well he tried but said he was unable to get the hardware out. I am still having a lot of daily pain and wondering if the hardware is possibly the issue. Has anyone else had the problem and am I just stuck with these awful things at this point or get a second opinion? The hardware site is painful to the touch and I can only lay in bed on way because anything touching the site hurts. The entire is is tight and painful. Thanks.

Wow, that's not something I've heard of- my tto screws came out at the same time as the replacement. Did the surgeon explain why he wasn't able to remove the screws? Bone quality?
