medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction

Post by zoe »

hi everyone
i was wondering if anyone had any more information on this procedure. i have done a search on this site and on the web but i still can't find out much about it. basically, i am 24 and have had knee problems (subluxations/dislocations) for 13 years. i've had a lateral release on each knee, a thermal shrinkage on each knee and a thermal shrinkage operation on my shoulder. at this point, my left knee is in constant pain. i had been told by my os that a ttt would not work for me because i have a flat trochlear groove. a few months ago i went to my os and got the synvisc injections as sort of a last ditch attempt at something that would work fo me. then he told me that there is a new operation for people like me with a shallow/flat trohlear groove. i was too out of it and scared by what might happen with the injections to really ask questions about what the operation exactly was. from my research online i think he was talking about the mpfl reconstruction and that is why i wanted more info on it. i don't have to go back to the doctor for 4 more months but i wanted to find out more info on it.

thanks
zoe

Hi,

I'm also having an MPFL Recon. along with a TTT and LR this summer. I don't know much about the MPFL Recon except that my OS told me that he would be reattching the mpfl b/c it was completely torn away....but that's all he said....except that he didn't want to tighten it much b/c w/ my trochlear dysplasia I would be at risk for overcorrecting and dislocating medially.
