osgood schlatter in adults

I am a 54 year old male. Three weeks ago, I developed pain which seems to originate on the top of the bone right below the knee.There is a bump which has become swollen and larger that the normal one on the other side. It is extremely painful to the touch and depending on the activity can become painful enough to cause a noticable limp. I never had any symptoms like this before. The symptoms sound like osgood/schlatter but everything I've read indicated that it only develops in childhood and then can continue into adulthood. Can it develop in middle age where there were no symptoms before? If not, are there any other conditions that might produce the same symptoms? Thanks, Howard

Hi i know this post was 10 years ago but.
What was the out come of this i am 45 had osgood for 6 years at least, finally going to have the operation in april.
