Arthoscopic surgery with abrasion chondroplasty
Hi, I am scheduled for arthoscopic surgery for Aug. 2nd. I am wondering about the recovery and success of this kind of surgery. I have osteoarthritis under my knee cap which catches and locks and is very painful and have lots of pain in the back of my knee. I am 32 so surgery on my knee this young has me concerned! Any stories of recovery greatly appreciated, I have 3 kids so I need to kind of know how long I will be out of commision.

Re: Arthoscopic surgery with abrasion chondroplasty
If all they are doing is a simple scope with a clean up, you should not be out long at all. A few days on crutches should be all. Depends on your doc and how you heal. I was back to work in 10 days after having both knees scoped. I've come back in a week or less from a single scope and clean up. Good luck.

Re: Arthoscopic surgery with abrasion chondroplasty
Thanks for the reply! I am havig arthoscopy with abrasion chondroplasty, well that is what my surgery admit papers say. The abrasion chondroplasty is what has me concerned, I read it is when they chisle away and expose some of the bone to make it bleed, this should trigger the healing process and cause scarr tissue to form over the bone to act as a cushioning for the bones. My OS didn't explain this to me at all, it is just on my admit paper. He said he was doing a debridement under my patella. (knee cap) Reading that has me really concerned about recovery.
