Knee braces for hypermobile joints (skiing!)
Knee braces for hypermobile joints (skiing!)
I am hypermobile and for many years had issues with my knees dislocating. I had a distal realignment op in my right knee about 10 years ago. While I've had on and off pain issues, I've been able to manage it with physio and gym work. I went skiing for the first time a couple of years ago and while I had a good time it was not the most comfortable experience and I didn't feel very confident. I wondered if anyone could recommend the type of knee brace I would need for this problem which would help give me the confidence and support I need to ski?

Re: Knee braces for hypermobile joints (skiing!)
Hi there
I also have issues with my knee dislocating from hypermobility. I also ski and snowboard fairly regularly. I have had a LR a couple years ago and afterwards, my OS sent me to his brace guy and I got a GE-FORCE2 brace. The main thing with it is that it has a Y butrus that sits under my kneecap. They were able to add padding on the outside of it so that my kneecap is forced to stay in place. I also have another brace that has a C shaped butrus. Same idea. The C sits around my kneecap and keeps it from sliding out. I've found both of these work pretty well for me while skiing although my knee is pretty sore after a full day.
Have you tried snowboarding? I find it is much easier on my knees (once I learned how to stop falling on them
. Just stay away from moguls and jumps on both skis and snowboards.

What abour a Breg Fusion, Functional brace with the patellar tracking orthosis add in...
I have a breg fusion for an ACL injury that we chose not to repair.. and it's a great brace, every comfy easy to move in... they have one that has the patellar tracking part added into it.![Smiley :)](./images/smilies/smiley.gif)

I love my Breg hinged brace. It is great. I hope to get back to skiing one day. A way to go yet though.
