Re: Bracing
Liberty said: The brace that I'll be getting is the Townsend Premier. That's what I'm wearing - in burgundy. I find it doesn't restrict what I do beyond not being particularly comfortable when the knee is at 90 degrees. But my activity level & yours I'm sure are quite different. The brace comes ...

Re: Bracing
Nick, I'm the old lady of the group who ruptured her ACL. I wear a Townsend Design custom brace & when my OS asked me just the other day if I were wearing it, I responded that I loved it because it allowed me do things w/o thinking about where or how I was placing my foot. It's graphite & li...

Re: Is it me or does alot of OS's have problems believeing that your in pain???
Tanya ~ I have two OSs. One I see in a scheduled appointment & the other is a friend. I can't tell you how much more information & help I've gotten from this friend whereas the other man seems abrupt & unwilling to spend time listening to what I have to say. I have a follow up visit tomo...

Re: surgery
Know what it is like to not be able to ride horses - I have not been able to for quite awhile now. Hopefully, this scope will help with whatever is causing your knee problems. Interesting that you can't ride. It's one of the few times I feel secure & comfortable - when I'm on my horse. I have a...

Re: Hooray!! Good news!!
Being fitted for the Townsend brace was just as Liberty described! And the brace was back here in CT within the two weeks, fitting perfectly. The top OS man I've spoken about in past posts saw me wearing it last week & complimented my local OS on selecting that particular brace. Bob approved tot...

Re: Hooray!! Good news!!
Liberty ~ The one I have says Premier. It has two graphite bands across the tibia & one across the femur. My leg was cast for the brace & apparently the mold was sent to CA so the brace could be custom made. The more I wear it the more secure I feel & you have an amazing choice of colors...

Re: Hooray!! Good news!!
Liberty, congratulations on your recovery. I'm wearing a Townsend custom brace for a ruptured & most likely not to be repaired ACl. I love it. Secure feeling, made of graphite & quite comfortable & not bulky at all. Check out Townsenddesign.com...Ellie

Re: how stable was your knee before surgery?
I had an opportunity for an impromptu discussion with the OS I'd been wanting to see for a second opinion. It was the evening of a polo practice & I was helping out when Bob came into the courtyard, saw the Townsend brace I was wearing & started asking questions. I had a copy of my MRI repor...

Re: how stable was your knee before surgery?
No surgery contemplated here but I can do most daily activities w/o benefit of the brace. I suspect I'm the "oldster" on this list at 67 but I thank goodness I've been riding horses as long as I have because I'm sure that's kept my legs very strong. My problem is that I don't always recogn...

Re: Ruptured ACL - Should I have Recon?
Thanks, jbluestein for suggesting the excellent website. I have lots of reading to do. I can envision living w/o reconstruction but will seek the second opinion from a top orthopod here in CT who knows my lifestyle well as he's a polo player who keeps his horses at the farm where my horse is. In the...

Let's talk age
I have no ACL & have menisci damage with knee instability. I'm active - ride my horse, walk my 4 dogs, shovel snow in winter, mow lawn in summer, constantly on the go. A visit to an ortho surgeon resulted in a conservative approach to the situation - brace for stability & live with it. No su...
