I'm not having the op - huge weight off my mind

After waiting on the NHS list for 2.5 years (I took myself off it for a while to go travelling), and with just 11 days until the surgery date, I've decided against having the op. I thought I would post here just to let people know that surgery isn't always the best option. I got so stressed in recen...

Re: First 48 hrs after ACL recon - success

great post, it's nice to hear positive stuff. i'm three weeks away from the same op. i'm not sure i'll stay awake. i feel like i'm pretty strong-stomached, but attempted to watch a recording of the Channel 4 Anatomy Show while eating my breakfast this morning. The very first slicing of the skin was ...

Wedding invite 3 days after ACL op...

hello, I have a wedding to go to three days after my ACL op. I am pretty sure I'll be in no state to go, based on what I know about the post-op phase. I assume I'll be barely walking, and struggling around on crutches if I am. And getting in a car for 2 hours to drive to the wedding is, I doubt, sen...

NHS flexibility when choosing op time

Hi, in the uk, and on the NHS, is there any flexibility in setting the date of your op? i injured my ACL in summer 2002, but took myself off the list 18 months ago to go travelling. I went back on the list last July, and finally got a date in February for the op. Unfortunately, I'm setting up for a ...

Re: ACL repair and competitive cycling - how soon?

thanks for the advice; you've told me what i think i knew but was in denial of :-/

if anyone reading this has a really positive story about getting back onto the back, even if not in a competitive manner, i'd love to hear it!

ACL repair and competitive cycling - how soon?

hi, well, it's about a month til the op and i am concerned about cycling afterwards. i'm having an ACL repair in February, but would be like to be competing during the summer in cycling events. I do endurance mountain bike events, up to 24hr (!) in length. What are people's knowledge/experience of c...
