Success Story - patellofemoral pain syndrome

Hi all, It has probably been a few years since I last posted but I wanted to write to say that I would consider myself about 95% recovered. I can walk a mile in a day no problem. I live a normal life and don't think about my knees daily. Once in a while they get a bit weird feeling but that doesn't ...

Re: PFPS.. Update...

Just another quick update... I am now riding a bike a couple times a week. Usually 10 minutes at a time to get to my PT or pilates appointment and back home. This is MAJOR!! My muscles are improving very quickly compared to before because of the bike riding. My right leg is finally starting to catch...

Re: Advice about how to manage a PFS pain flair-up

You will get over it. You got over it once already, it is extremely likely you will get better again. Perhaps reduce your weight bearing movement for a while if possible. Maybe skip the new exercises you recently added but just try to do some movement? Working with a rehabilitation pilates instructo...

Re: Total rest seems baffling to me...

I did total rest for a while and looking back I assume I would have gotten better without doing that but at the time I was lost and scared and in so much pain from walking that I just didn't know what to do. So that's what I did! I probably paid for it with muscle weakness and maybe even other issue...

Re: Update (Over a year and frustrated)-this is slow going:(

Oh yeah, that's another thing. I only wear one type of shoes and cannot seem to break myself of them. They seem to have the perfect heel size for my problem which is a very slight lift. I wear them literally all the time. I honestly think this may have contributed to some ankle issues- my ankles see...

Re: PFPS.. Update...

One more thing...I still seem to not be able to lie down with my legs out straight in front of me. Feels pinchy. I can finally as of about 4 months ago sleep with my legs straight when on my side or kind of on my stomach but when I am on my back it doesn't feel right...still!!! Over 2 years like this!

Re: Update (Over a year and frustrated)-this is slow going:(

It really is a process of recovery that takes years. I am hopeful that I will still improve and I think I actually will. The body does an amazing job of repairing.... I hate to say this but you kind of just have to believe it will. The signs were so minuscule though along the way...sometimes other p...

Re: PFPS.. Update...

Hey everyone, Thought I'd post another update. My world was basically destroyed two years ago..you can read all about that on this forum. Wanted to provide an update of things that are working for me. It's been a bit over two years since my first knee issues. Currently I can see that the fat pad on ...

Re: PFPS.. Update...

Yeah, I am pretty sure this is going to be a lifelong condition. Or a recovery of many years. I mostly try to ignore that thought.... I guess I'm still happy to be able to go get coffee and have my nails done. Returning to normal life is probably out of the question, will probably never be able to t...

Re: PFPS.. Update...

Hi!! So nice to see your post. I have mostly been avoiding this forum because it brings me back to a dark place but I know I need to share the wisdom I've gained. Which isn't a ton but may help others out there! I was a total mess for a long time and now definitely less of a mess but still not so g...

Re: Sleep Problems from Chronic Knee Pain

I was not able to stand for more than 2 seconds for months without severe pain. I also felt like it was bone on bone but it never was. I have mild/typical damage for my age (39) under the kneecap which is shown by MRI.

Re: Sleep Problems from Chronic Knee Pain

When my knees were at their worst I had issues sleeping but that only lasted a few weeks. I mean they were annoying for months and I had to sleep with a pillow between my legs and on my side in a very particular position for a long, long time but I didn't have constant severe pain all night. I would...

Re: Sleep Problems from Chronic Knee Pain

It sounds like you may have synovitis of the knee. I encourage you to do a ton of reading on the forum and follow some of the suggestions- reduce load and activity, gentle PT, etc. It may be a long journey to recovery. Perhaps contact Dr. Dye. You may want to read posts by suspectdevice, spiderplant...

Re: chronic PFS- need advice, feel I've tried everything

Hahaha..love this idea! I am going to wear a head to toe wetsuit-like outfit. It's crazy, I'm so inactive that I've been worried about even getting to the pool. Oh no, I'm going to have to stand and use a locker and blah blah blah. Time to get moving I guess. I've gotten so used to doing nothing tha...
