Re: Recommendations for cycling / PFPS

It's a really good question, and something that I personally believe doesn't have a "universal" answer. It has a lot to do with how your personal patellafemoral contact pressures build based on your anatomy, and the contact angle where you may have wear or damage. A lot of activities and i...

Re: PFJR post op activity

For your first PFJR, your non-operated knee was probably holding you back a bit. That won't be happening now so you're probably asking more of your new PFJR and asking it earlier than you were with the older one. Sorry - that's a bit convoluted but I hope you know what I mean. So I think you just g...

Re: PFJR post op activity

Hi RGB - any luck on the blood flow restriction strengthening method? I've hit a bit of a wall with the newer knee - I'm good for two games of hockey a week, anything else added, and swelling and discomfort is the result - more pronounced than my last knee. I've decided to go back to your prior reco...

Re: Patellar Syndrome ???

I'm not assiduous at icing. I will try to focus on it but it really effective ? For treatment of swelling- no. I think there's enough recent studies on the effects of icing that show it pretty definitively not be useful in that regard, possibly even counterproductive. - and yet it's still commonly ...

Re: Medial meniscus degeneration and an osteotomy to rotate the femur?

Glad to you have access to multiple opinions! Definitely leverage that hard as a first step. That said, it's frustrating to hear that you're not getting consensus on the Osteotomy measurements, but their reco to go and do physio speaks volumes regarding their confidence on the procedure and it's app...

Re: What to consider before an osteotomy to rotate the femur?

So the question I'm trying to answer is not whether to do a surgery but what surgery and with what doctor to do. Ah, gotcha. Yeah, that's a tough one, and often very specific to geography. For example, there's likely a lot of surgeons in the US that you can consult with in a reasonable amount of ti...

Re: End of the line?

I'm so sorry to read about your situation. That's a terrible outcome. Honestly I'm certainly not qualified to offer any advice apart from pushing for a referral to another surgeon, or finding one yourself. I went through 4 operations with 4 different surgeons before I found an acceptable result. I'm...

Re: What to consider before an osteotomy to rotate the femur?

Hi Lightning, Yeah, that's definitely not just a big surgery, but two of them. I understand you wanting to be crystal clear about expectations. Are they planning to do them one at time? Obviously you'd want to go the most skilled person you can find, and get a 2nd and 3rd opinion if possible. Ultima...

Re: PFJR post op activity

Wow, thanks RGB - very timely. I've been trying to increase strength in my more recent pfjr leg, as it still gets a little sore after longer biking efforts and higher pace hockey.

Definitely let us know the results! I've never heard of this before. Very interested.

Re: PFPS knees (bilateral)

Heh, that reminds me of my pre-plastic days - the only thing I could really do was swim freestyle with a pullbuoy. It is a good workout, though, but not enough. It sounds like you've got less of a condition that requires replacement of cartilage, rather, loss of homestasis causing chronic irritation...

Re: PFJR post op activity

Hi WD- yeah the biopoly stuff looks neat in theory, basically an artificial oats implantation with less recovery time, I assume. There was another lady that got something similar on here a few years back. I'd have a few questions about how the surrounding cartilage integrates with the plugs though. ...

Re: PFPS knees (bilateral)

I'm sorry you're having such a bad time with it. PF pain is incredibly frustrating. Bit of a strange comment from the surgeon - if there's chondral damage isolated to the PF compartment, I don't see what a full replacement would do to alleviate pain that a PFJR wouldn't. You'd be resurfacing healthy...

Re: PFJR post op activity

I'm pondering PFJR. How are you guys doing with these now? How long do you think they're likely to last (ballpark) and what kind of level of activity is realistic? Thanks for all your posts on the forum. Knowing we're not alone in this is good for the sanity! Hi WD, I'm about 8 months since my 2nd ...
