Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

At the 5 year point and all going well. Still get low level reactive swelling after intense exercise but my stack of high quality Omega 3s (about 1g of TG for DHA) plus Curcumin (Longvida) seems to keep me competing. Off with GB duty later next month. Still curious if I had had my Osteo from day 1 i...

Re: Desperate from some advice or answers about degenerative meniscus

Hi, The MRI results sound good for the most part. Its the horns of the medial meniscus that may be meaning the meniscus can flap around somewhat and get caught in the joint, perhaps folding over, difficult to say. The preserved articular cartilage everywhere is a God send. My recommendation would be...

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

@badleftlnee1 You have a great way with describing your life, really engaging, thank you for taking the time to share. I caveat that my 'heavy' squats are miniscule compared to almost everyone in the gym, I attempted 10 reps at probably a 14 rep max weight and didn't feel great after, so keep my rep...

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

2.75Y update: I think I can say with confidence now that this surgery combination certainly requires a long rehab period. Thankfully I can report that I am back to competitive sport, perhaps able to represent Great Britain again in 2021. My knee feels very good most of the time. I will likely always...

Re: 12 month post meniscus surgery in a lot of pain - suggestions

Hi Fithy, It seems that a persons response to having a partial meniscus removal is random. Some can have no issues, presumably as they retain sufficient joint spacingbetween their articular surfaces due to lucky bone architecture (i.e. bow legged or vice versa depending on the part of meniscus remov...

Happy to send you an email, however if you have any questions you feel happy to share online, the community might benefit from us discussing your questions and concerns. As a 2.25yr update, things are going really well. Ice hockey is getting better, any subtle pain is normally reducing. I am as conv...

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

Hi, I didn't pay, I had Bupa health insurance, I don't know what cost would have been billed to me if I weren't covered.

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

Hi all, More or less my 2yr update. Just came back from the surgeon office after reviewing my recent MRI. For what its worth the MRIs indicate my plug and meniscus are as good as the day they were put in, I have a full thickness continuous articular cartilage surface where I had the grade 4 (full th...

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

Hey AndrewC, It is a very long road, and I'm running out of road hahaha! So NKT is legit, I feel the treatment is really switching on my movement chain, she is very happy with my progress. She does note there have been internal structural changes from the meniscus but I am sloe to being able to move...

Re: Partial Menisectomy Post Op Diary - My Story With Daily Updates!

Hi Ilya,

So just to confirm, you have had consistent clicking / popping noises for a decade, but seemingly no deterioration apparent as a result?

Congratulations on your active life :)

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

Very brief note update. Diet went well, basically ate calorie maintenance and didn't lose or put on weight as best I can tell. Probably a beneficial move in body composition. Knee swelling is good but by instinct is that going full keto didn't have much if any impact from that angle, so will likely ...

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

I am obviously a sample size of 1, but my brief experience has convinced me that if I have to go through this again, I will get into FRC training much earlier in my rehab. The ankle and hip work with those movements seem to have been transformative to some of the discomforts I had, but it could simp...

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

badleftknee1 - Honestly, rarely but it has happened with prolonged standing, less so as time continues, I can be on my feet most if not all day now without pain or swelling, prior to surgery if I was standing more than 30 mins the evening would mean reactive swelling - Only cycling of those you ment...

Re: I took the plunge, Lateral Meniscus Transplant + OATs

Quick 16 month update. Massive sport progression. I can't singe the praises of FRC training enough. I wonder if I had been doing this type of training and joint articulation training from before my injury if I would have had the initial injury. I feel that without it, I would have pain manifest in m...
