Re: Knee problems after tibial IM nailing

I've had similar issues with pain that all seems to be soft tissue related. My ACL needed to be screwed into place, and I have never been able to have a proper assessment done since the repair. I finally have a specialist appointment this month, but I'm not sure what they can do (if anything) after ...

Fingers are crossed here as well!!! That seems a long time to wait, but I'm sure it'll go by quickly. I hope it helps!

Re: Going mental

I've had many, many days of lamenting the loss of "my old life"..... and I used to find myself jealous of those who were able to start running again. I really did have to learn to look at the positives, which is hard. Oh, so hard. And makes new life choices based on the abilities that I DO...

Re: Clearing the clutter: Writing letters?

As long as the lead clinical manager sees it, I think it would make a difference. I would do it. I've had similar issues with physicians, and have finally decided to write complaints to the governing physician agency in my province. I won't return to those physicians again, but hopefully it will mak...

Re: No support system

Having a strong support system is so important. Please, please reach out to your community in any way that you can. Friends should be understanding that you need to be social, and if they're good friends then they will be only too happy to help you recover! Don't feel bad for calling on them! Switch...

Re: Going mental

While I have a different injury so can't offer advice on that part.... what I CAN offer is that while yes, it's a long road and you'll have many frustrations, it DOES get better. Sometimes it means making a few changes in order to accommodate your healing knee, but compromises are so useful!! The pr...

Re: Pain after 6 months

Hi Tracey, I feel your pain!! Are you still having the same issues? One thing you can ask for is for any hardware to be removed. They usually require you to wait 12 months, and not all surgeons will agree it will work. It helped me tremendously, but know of others that it didn't. That being said, wh...

Re: Brand New tibial plateau mashed potatos

Well, it's been a little while since I've been here..... and doing some reading up on TPFs I came across my own thread. Hahaha figured I'd pop in an do an update. It's been a long road, and my life has completely changed. Some of it just due to life... and some of it due to the knee break. So. Since...

Re: Brand New tibial plateau mashed potatos

A bit of an update.... The PTs encouraged me to continue wearing the hinged knee brace and continue weaning off of it, which I did, and I now am -- I had to, simply because my knee would swell and dig into the brace. It has since cause open wounds because of all the chaffing, so the last few days ha...

Re: "toe-touch" weight-bearing

Hello! Sorry to have to welcome you to the little group of handicapped misfits. :) Yes, you can totally overdo it and cause damage. The leg is not stable to bear your weight, and the screws will shift easily if aggravated too much -- this can often cause them to come loose without warning pains, and...

Re: Can anybody kneel now?

I can get into a kneeling position upright, but can't put pressure down on the TPF leg or sit on my heels. The stretch itself hurts, as well as the hardware.

Hope it gets better!

Re: Brand New tibial plateau mashed potatos

Thanks for the support, guys. Although, gotta admit, it's one thing after another after another. I'm still doing daily physio, and actually GOING to physio three times a week. The PTs found a hinged brace for me to borrow for a little while to help with my stability while hobbling around. I now have...
