Re: Hello Everyone~my story- anyone with similar symptoms, advice/help?

Hey, sorry about your knees, its always a tricky thing. Stick with PT for now and give it a good 6 months to try and build things up. Take pain killers and rest when you can. MRI and xray is good idea to see if anything is going on in the knee. Does it catch or lock on you? Its best to avoid the kni...

Re: quad tendon inflamation post LR

This happened to me too. Still have it over 2 years post lateral release and my leg is useless. For me, it was a superio-lateral release which cut from the superio-lateral corner of the patella to the base of the vastus lateralis. Nerves were damaged, scar tissue formed. Feels like someone took a ra...

Hey, hopefully they come through with the PM doc asap so you can at least have better control of the pain. The meds suck, I agree with you there. Its frustrating being pill'd up, its sh*tty. I am right there with you. I havent been taking mine on schedule anymore either cause Im just sick of it too....

Re: mdk TTT wtg gj

PAIN SUCKS! I feel you. It sounds like the hydrocordone is not cutting it for you for the time being, which is understandable since the dose is quite weak and is a short acting med. Maybe an extended release med would work better for you like oxycontin, codeine contin, hydromorph contin, etc. These ...

Re: Looks like my LR has failed.....where to go?

Agree with the above opinion to see a patello femoral specialist. Its not unusual for a LR to create more problems after surgery since it cut ligaments, tendons, and sometimes, muscle during surgery. It is very diffcult to reverse a lateral release but some people have had that done and improved. It...

Re: Partial Acl tear Physio or surgery

Ive never torn my acl but have had a friend who completly tore his and dislocated his kneecap as well in high school wrestling. He had to get the surgery. IMO, I think the wise thing to do would be to avoid the knife if possible and stick with physio, especially since you say it feels pretty solid a...

Re: Surgery regrets post lateral release - anyone else?

TOMMAX: What exactly is a MPFL r and LPFL r? Are these the same as the medial retinaculm and lateral retinaculum? Is the LR and the LPFL in essence the same ligament? I am confused with the terminology. Thankyou. LPFLr = Lateral patellofemoral ligament reconstruction MPFLr = Medial patellofemoral l...

Re: Surgery regrets post lateral release - anyone else?

Yes, I very much regret it. Worst mistake of my life to date. Looking back I would not have had any knee surgery what so ever, even a dignostic arthroscopy. There are too many unskilled surgeons out there and too many things that can go wrong. The body is a very complex organism and its easy for a s...

EmergRN - I'm central in Winnipeg but I am preparing to pack up and head to whereever I may be able to connect with sub-subspecialist OS. Hey, Im from winnipeg too and had an LR, it made my knee much much worse (no TTT though, thank goodness). Whos your OS, which ones have you seen? Are you seeking...

Re: mdk TTT wtg gj

Without bandying too much, I regret nothing. My decision-making process has been driven by the very pragmatic goal of getting back into a cockpit. From the outset, I said I'd do whatever it took to give me the best chance of making it back up to speed, even if it meant taking some risks and making ...

MDK, I know its heart breaking that all of this could be a career breaker but I think health comes first and that should be top priority. The fact that the AF would be able to pay you for up to 5 yrs for disability is not a bad thing, it could be worse like you said, could have crashed a bike ouside...

1)What injuires have you had? 2)What surgeries have you had? 3)Have you had the proper diagnostics and investigation to rule out any abnormalities thoughout the leg, ie. long bone malrotations, trochlear depth, TT-TG off set, MRI, xrays in various planes, a proper clinical evaluation, various opinio...

Re: Has anyone had my failed LR experience?

1. Why did my leg turn out worse, what physically went wrong, what happened in my case as opposed to what was suppose to happen (i.e less pain instead of more)? 2. Why does my leg and ankle hurt all the time with a dull ache? Why are my muscles weak still and smaller? 3. Why do I get a sharp pain i...

Re: Need advice re: Dr. Teitge Please help!

If you cant get into see Dr. Teitge then go see Dr. Jamali. He is worth the trip and has seen both sides of the orthopedic world, as a patellofemoral specialist/ OS and as a surgical patient. I would definetly trust his advice and judgement. IMPO I think it would be foolish not to see him especially...

Re: 17 months post lateral release, on going pain problems

Thanks again doc. I can understand your reluctance to step on toes of a friend and colleague and intrude on his judgements. For the record, there were 3 arthroscopic incisions, 2 of the incisions being medial. One at the base of the VMO and one near the MPFL. Speaking theoricatically here, if it is ...
