Plica buildup?????

I went to the doctor with knee pain.
She did an x-ray and said that I have a build up of plica and that the only real alternative is surgery.
I did have surgery about 3 years ago and don't want to go through this again......is there another alternative?
And what in the heck is plica anyway and why does it grow back?

Good luck, and I had my plica removed Dec 03.
