Access to notes
« on: August 25, 2004, 10:56:30 PM »
Does anybody in the UK know how I'd go about getting access to my hospital notes? NHS mucked me about for a year and a half before removing my plica and I'd like to read the letters that went back and forth. Is it easy to get access to these notes?

Hi Wimple

Good question - I need my MRI scans for my specialist.

I was going to start with my GP but mine's not very helpful, so I'm a little reluctant to ask him.

How about the local health authority?

I'll let you know if I find a good in-road :)

Had a not needed LR op due to a fall
Found out that nerve damage was causing the pain, acupuncture worked - all ok :)

Easily done!. All you have to do is go to or phone the records dept at the hospital and request to see your records. You are entitled to see them or at a small price, have a copy of all the notes you want, even x-rays, scans etc...
I got a copy of mine a few months ago and found it really interesting reading through what I've had cut up that I had no idea I had done!.
I paid 50 for absolutley every record since I was a kid (I can think of quite a few times Ive been to A+E though that there was no mention in my records.

I think to update them after that, theres a 10 admin charge then about 35p or 40p a copy after that.

There is about a 6 week wait for them, but typical NHS, they still havent sent my x-rays and MRI's 4 months later eventhough I call every couple of weeks to ask when I will get them.  Every time Im told a week or two!.
