There are techniques, but they really don't do much. You need to remember that with any tape job, the adhesive base breaks down after about 40 minutes, making it ineffective. It seems almost stupid to waste your time taping when there are braces out there which do such a better job. The only time I have ever taped a knee is on the football sidelines, when I need to get an athlete through a couple of plays, even then it's typically for an MCL or hyperextension type injury. I would never even attemt to tape an ACL injury.
