Question about tape-ing my knee
« on: August 23, 2004, 04:32:08 AM »
Is there any way that you can tape a knee to prevent buckling?  Like with regular athletic tape and pre-wrap?
1/15/04 = ACL Rupture (fully torn)
11/17/04 = ACL Recon. Surgery

There are techniques, but they really don't do much.  You need to remember that with any tape job, the adhesive base breaks down after about 40 minutes, making it ineffective.  It seems almost stupid to waste your time taping when there are braces out there which do such a better job.  The only time I have ever taped a knee is on the football sidelines, when I need to get an athlete through a couple of plays, even then it's typically for an MCL or hyperextension type injury.  I would never even attemt to tape an ACL injury.
1999 LR, 2002 ACL/PLC recon, reversal of LR, 2004 ACL revision, 2006 Car accident torn PCL and small fractures resulting in bone chips in my knee.  Torn MCL 3 times.  Wicked screws under IT band and Pes Anserine.  June 2008-Hip Arthroscopy.
