hamstring tendon acl graft site
« on: August 24, 2004, 03:18:21 PM »
Hi guys

Ive been looking everywhere on the net for info on how the OS will take out the hamstring tendon. As the site where they take out the patellor tendon is at the front and looks 4 - 5 inches. Doesw anyone know whether the take hamstring tendon out the back of leg and how big the incision is.

Also does anyone know what a semitendinosus tendon is??

Thanks

Tash

Hi Tash,

Im also very interested in a Hamstring Graft site as im having one done on the 15th Sept and would like to know the 'ins' and 'outs' of this Op.
Would like to know the recovery program and times of healings and resuming activities again ???
Doing plenty of exercising now to strengthen my knee muscles pre-Op

Hi,
I had a hamstring graft last October.  The graft is harvested through a small incision (about 2" long) from the front of the knee.  Mine was through the old mid line incision used from my 1st ACL recon using the patella tendon.  It seems quite bizarre that the hamstring is taken through there, but thats how it happened.
A friend of mine also had a hamstring graft and had her incision about 1" below the kneecap slightly to the medial side.
I had virtually no pain in the hamstring area at all, yet some people have alot of pain there.
The patella pain never eased for me, even after 9 years since it was done!.  It has always been extremely sensitive when gently touched, I have never been able to kneel since.  Yet friends of mine have no problem with the patella tendon graft!.

All the best with your decision,

Heather ;)
