loose cartilage
« on: July 31, 2004, 10:30:13 PM »
Hi, I'm 17 and have osteochondritis dissecans. I've had 2 MRI scans and an op (arthroscopy) on my knee already. 5 weeks ago noticed a lump appearing on the side of my knee when i bent down. According to doc its a loose piece of cartilage and i'm now having another op to remove it. Does anyone know how long healing will take, and will i be in plaster or anything?

I'm guessing you're having an arthroscopy. If all they do is take out the loose piece, you should be able to fully weightbear in about 2-3 weeks, as a safe guesstimate. everyone's different. i had one arthroscopy where all I had was a trim of a hangnail tear, and didn't even have crutches, and have had other arthroscopies where it took 2-4 weeks to get off the crutches. So, it varies a lot.
multiple arthroscopies 2/00,3/01,6/01,1/03, 12/07,10/10. chondromalacia, severe medial joint space narrowing following 3 partial menisectomies, chronic pain problems, kneecap problems, OCD lesion, failed mfx.
