What can be done...physio ?
« on: July 26, 2004, 07:23:25 PM »
 >:( Currently experiencing knee pain and scrunching noises when going down stairs. Knees generally ache all the time. What could this be, what is a physio likely to do ? Heard of patella maltracking, what is this and how can it be corrected

I have tried doing some moderate quad stretches and exercises as shown on this site but they seem to make it worse !

Thanks

I have the same thing....
It's called patello-femoral syndrome.
Yes, going down stairs is especially hard, because the patella is not in the proper groove, thus it rubs against the cartilage underneath and irritates it.

I just ordered a Thighmaster Gold...it strengthens the INNER thigh, that's the part that is failing to keep your knee-cap in place. It looks more effective than the "excercises"....and anti-inflammatory pills might help, but they won't "fix" the problem.

I also got a brace that has a patella "butress" and hinges on the side. It's made by Mueller. I go down stairs sideways and one step at a time.

It's a pain in the "you know what", but try the things I said and get back to us!
