Long Awaited MRI !!!
« on: May 27, 2004, 03:43:41 PM »
Im having an MRI in 2 weeks after a 3 month wait.
My OS says my knee mechanics are fine but i've told him that my meniscus on left side of knee feels torn,it clicks and clunks constantly and recently a well respected Sports Physio thought my ACL was torn as well he was alot thorough in his examination  than my OS.
Will the MRI show these knee problems ??? im afraid my OS will see the MRI and say its all o.k (hope not) when I know it certainly is not.Have not been able to play sport for 4 months now and a simple twisted knee would of healed by now surely...??
Frustrated

Let me just say that any OS worth his salt won't decide nothing is Wrong even if the MRI shows nothing.  MRI's are known for their in acuracies, however they should show the ACL tear...but they have been known to give false positives and false negatives.  Also any diagnositics are only as good as the technicians reading them.
Goodluck hope this finds the source of your problems

My OS said even if nothing shows up on the MRI we are definately going ahead with the scope; some things just don't show up.

I had an mri where the radiologist read it as inconclusive and the os I see looked at the same film and saw a tear. The OS was right, not the radiologist. Just goes to show, who does the scan and controls the settings, and who reads it make all the difference.
multiple arthroscopies 2/00,3/01,6/01,1/03, 12/07,10/10. chondromalacia, severe medial joint space narrowing following 3 partial menisectomies, chronic pain problems, kneecap problems, OCD lesion, failed mfx.
