Visible popping above left knee
« on: July 21, 2022, 06:03:49 PM »
Hi,

Several years ago I used this site and forum as I was having a lateral release procedure.

Fast forward to now and I have had four knee surgeries, osteoarthritis and last year a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis which was treated in December.

Since recovery, l get a snapping/popping sensation on my left leg but ABOVE  the kneecap.
It is audible too, as a dull Ďclunkí.
Hopefully the link I have attached will work as it shows the movement of whatever it is
under the skin.

My GP referred me to physio whom I saw today, but I am no better off as I have been
discharged and referred to the next level up who, once they have assessed me, can request an MRI.

My chiropractor thinks itís my ITB snapping over the femur.

Someone online also said I may have torn the cartilage off the distal head of the femur,
but I think this is unlikely

Anyway I was hoping some of you on here could watch the video and give me some
other suggestions as to what could be causing this issue.

Seriously NO replies?

I thought this was a place to get help and advice from people who know
about knees, did my post simply get missed?

Posters here are patients not clinicians.
Why do you not think the chiropractor is correct?
Perhaps while you wait for the MSK referral, you could see a private physiotherapist for another opinion (as you suggest the NHS physio didnít give you a diagnosis?)
Is the clunk painful, knees do snap and pop but if thereís no pain or locking, buckling or similar itís may just be the structures moving around normally as the chiropractor thinks.
Do you have an exercise or stretching programme to target any muscle weakness or disfunction again while you wait for the scan?
Could it be a result of things just being looser since the LR as that can lead to laxity? Why was the LR indicated?

Good luck
