Someone on here may have these symptoms and may help.Im sick of the pain and restrictions in my mobility. My left knee has issues sick of waiting for NHS I went private had MRI and xray diagnosed with meniscus degeneration however was told it would not cause the level of pain I'm suffering. No arthritis detected. I've done physio over months but was fit previously. I did not suffer an injury initially eg a fall or twist however did a lot of hill walking. I've had steroid injection no help. Pain killers don't touch the pain. It seems to come on if I slightly twist as in move not injured my knee. The pain is central about am inch from centre middle in soft part inside if that makes any sense. It makes no difference if I elevate ice or rest. It flares up and it agony. I'm not sure of its in knee joint. It's a painful throbbing. Mri xray picked up nothing accept a pretty healthy knee except wear and tear. I'm at a loss as I can't go on like this. Any ideas . I'm phoning consultant to see what can be done.

Usually wear and tear is a synonym for mild arthritis, ie damage to the articular cartilage. Ask your consultant to explain the findings and degree of wear. They often shy away from the term arthritis and use degenerative change instead aka wear and tear.
Do painkillers help? Anti inflammatories?
How’s the muscle tone and strength in your leg?
Good luck

I've been told minimum wear. I have been told arthritis nor osteo arthritis . The pain started this morning early I think I moved my knee awkward in bed but nothing dramatic. Painkillers don't touch it. I took anti inflamitaries a few hours ago. My leg is elevated Currently pain is bad. I've been told the wear is that mild it should not cause this level of pain. It's a throbbing stabbing hot pain feels sometimes likes it's pulsing and knee hurst at that point if I touch. I'm really at the end of it now its been 18 months of this. I was superfit pre this and have tried to excercise when I can but nothing like before due to this issue. When pain starts I cant put my foot on the floor.

Could be a loose body in the joint, maybe a bit of cartilage or meniscus that’s getting trapped. However, if it’s hot and swollen, it suggests more an inflammatory issue. Do you have pain in any other joints? Have you had blood tests?
Definitely sounds like you need to discuss with a knee specialist, maybe get a repeat MRI in case something was missed (those little bits can hide). Scans aren’t foolproof though, an arthroscopy would allow the surgeon to get a proper look, give worn bits a tidy and wash anything floating around out. Surgery should be a last resort when there’s nothing obvious but perhaps you’re now there.
If it’s chronic inflammation from overuse, then a longer course of a stronger anti inflammatory like celecoxib with a ppi to protect your stomach under medical supervision might settle things. Surgery might just stir things up more
Good luck

My knee isn't hot or swollen. I do ice it when pain starts. It was 9 hours of pain relentless starting the early hours this morning. I was told if it didn't settle I could have an arthroscopy. The steroids didn't work so it's back to the drawing board.
