I have a torn MPFL
« on: March 01, 2021, 03:32:10 AM »
I have a torn MPFL and I'm wondering do I need to be finished growing to get surgery? I'm 15, about 6'4.5 and I really wanna get back to my full potential to play basketball again. Next year is my junior year and I don't have much time. So I'm wondering if I need to be finished growing to get the reconstruction. Thank you.

Have you been told you definitely need surgery? Have you finished PT? How did you dislocate your knee? Is it the first time you’ve done it?

If surgery is needed, you must discuss with a surgeon specialised in pediatric knee surgery, preferably one expert in patella surgery.

Do not rush into anything for the sake of getting back to sport ASAP, as hard as it may be, you need to consider the health of your knee for the next 60+ years not the next few and that may mean easing back off the basketball and waiting.

Good luck :)
