Knee not bending after dislocation
« on: February 25, 2021, 01:12:59 PM »
Hi, can anyone give me any tips as to how to help get my knee bending.

I dislocated my knee in early Jan slipping on ice, it used to dislocate, hadn't for 24 years as had been surgically corrected, but for some reason it's dislocated again...

It was immobilised for 4 week as was very swollen, lots of soft tissue damage - it was out for about 4 hours and had to be pushed back into place in hospital.

I've had an MRI at week 3 and it was clear, no bony damage or tears, just a lot of wear and tear and swelling...

I'm now 7 weeks since it's been done an hit a plateau - can't get my knee bending beyond 60 (i'm in a hinged brace). I'm doing physio exercises myself three times a day but just can't get it bending.

I'm seeing a physio once a week but now they don't want to see me for two weeks as i've not manged to bend any further since last week's appointment.

Has anyone got any tips or advise as to things i can do to get it bending more?

Thanks

Sounds like you might need to see a surgeon for an MUA and a tidy up if physio isnít helping. It wonít with a mechanical block if youíve got the swelling under control. Can you get full extension, which is more important as you canít walk
Optimally with a bent knee.
Iíve had reduced ROM since an accident and am awaiting a scope (mine is locked due to meniscus tear / loose body)

Good luck
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

Ah thanks, I'm seeing my consultant again in three weeks so if it's not improved by then I'll ask about an MUA (I googled what it is) yes I can get full extension, so I can walk but physio wants me to walk normally and I'm struggling with that, I'm walking with straight leg. Good luck with your scope and thanks for replying

Not sure where youíre based but is there any chance you could get into a hydrotherapy pool with your physio?
The warm water is great for movement
