I've managed to see a private physio.  Strange how the NHS are not seeing people. Anyway I have being diagnosed patella tendonitis.  I am being sent specific exercises to target this tendon. I didn't think however it would be painful for months even though I've laid of the hills and amount of exercise.

Tendinitis can be extremely difficult to resolve but good you have a diagnosis to work with.
Ice massage to the area with oil on the skin to stop burns can be helpful for specific inflammation. Also an anti inflammatory gel like Voltaren 2.32%.

The NHS are both redeploying staff and also minimising the through put in hospitals to reduce the spread of Covid for non urgent appointments (also the extra cleaning between patients also means they can see far fewer people so reserving slots for urgent /post op care as opposed to non urgent)

I'm not sure how long it will take to resolve.  I've had 8 months of it and it's stopping me doing activities and driving. Fingers crossed. I should not have to pay private but its the only way forward.

Unfortunately the NHS is only able to deal with serious or acute issues at the moment. Itís never really been great for ongoing sports injuries or chronic mild to moderate msk issues...even pre-Covid, you might have got a face to face appointment but no real hands on treatment, just a sheet of exercises.

Hopefully now you know what it is, you can get it resolved without too much further expense, although youíll need a lot of patience.

Thereís some info about patellar tendinitis here
