Frustration with Baker's cyst
« on: January 06, 2021, 09:16:29 AM »
Hi,

As some of you are aware I had an OATS procedure about a year ago (Dec 2019) and have a small (not very interesting) diary going on.
Around May 2020 I started feeling pain behind my knee if I walked more than a quarter of a mile, burning and pain behind my knee. Which settled pretty quick when I rested. No issues on cross trainer only whilst walking.
So today I was supposed to get it drained by Dr Bobic in Chester. No fluid came out, the Dr said its too thick almost honey like, he tried 3 times. He said probably try and have another MRI.

What can I do breakdown the cyst?
Steroid injection ?

I know cysts are a symptom to something else. I've had a cyst since 2008 never really caused me an issue.

Perhaps arthroscopic removal is in order and a thorough check that there is no cause such as a meniscus tear?
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

I had a meniscectomy in 2012, another tear in 2018 Dr Bobic decided to leave it during the OATS  procedure, as he thought its causing no harm.

Maybe itís got worse, they can do that unfortunately especially as presumably your meniscus is degenerate now
