UK surgeons for MPFL repair - any recommended?
« on: November 19, 2020, 03:16:51 PM »
Hi does anyone have any personal experience of the shortlist of my surgeons for MPFL repair? Would like to hear of your experiences to help me narrow down who to see. TIA! :)

I've so far narrowed it down to:
- Prof Adrian Wilson
- Mr Jonathan Bell
- Mr Tim Spalding
- Mr Nigel Rossiter

My case: I've felt a bit let down by my local NHS and wish to seek private treatment. I have torn my MPFL on my left knee which has a small bone fracture either detached from the patella or femur and is floating around the joint, lost about 1.2cm cartilage and had previous history of subluxing patella since age 15. I've also got a flat trochlear (Dejour type C) Am not a sports person, just regular person who slipped down the stairs carrying my baby with an existing compromised knee.

Jonathan Eldridge in Bristol is a recognised patella specialist, probably worth checking him out too. Specialised in trochleoplasty for example

He also has an NHS practice unlike Jonathan Bell or Adrian Wilson which may be helpful if you need major surgery which can get very expensive privately (Jonathan Bellís prices for example are higher than most, at least for an ACL recon from what people have said, maybe partly down to high costs at London hospitals). Obviously bear in mind waiting times for elective surgery in the UK are long and getting longer due to Covid :(

Tim Spalding does NHS lists still, not heard of Nigel Rossiter myself, but doesnít appear to have an NHS practice anymore
