First post, to say hello and see what you think.....
« on: July 25, 2020, 06:54:18 PM »
Afternoon All,

I hope that you are all well and I'm pleased to make your virtual acquaintance.

I have had knee pain for 6 months or so and have just had an MRI - My GP has sent me these result sand has said I am being referred to a specialist - can any decipher these results and indicate the probable cause of action once referred?

"Clinical Information: trauma to rt knee 6 months ago, with ongoing knee pain. strong FH of OA;;Report: There is no previous imaging. There is an effusion. There is marked irregularity and oedema of the anterior fibres of the medial collateral ligament. There is less marked irregularity of the medial retinaculum of the patella and there is oedema adjacent to its patellar insertion (10/25). The posterior horn of the
medial meniscus is irregular and contains a vertical tear"

Much appreciated

The main points are you have some damage to your MCL and a tear in your medial (inside of knee) meniscus, the shock absorber between your thigh and shin bone

How old are you?
What injury did you have?
Can you bend and straighten your knee fully? Does it give way?
Have you seen a physiotherapist following the injury?
Ask the specialist whether thereís arthritis in the joint
What country are you in?
If you have only pain and no biomenchanical impediment due to the meniscus, youíll likely be advised to have a course of physio led rehab.
Avoid surgery if you can, best to keep all your meniscus especially if the joint isnít yet arthritic

In the learning portfolio, there are good primers one ligaments and the meniscus to give good info
