Crunching Noise Post Microfracture
« on: January 26, 2020, 06:02:42 PM »
had Microfracture on my knee just over 8 weeks ago. I am now fully weightbearing and having physio.

My knee is crunching quite a bit when i go up and down stairs or bend it.
i also get a twangy feeling at the back of my knee which feels like an elastic band pinging.

I am worried that this may mean the op has failed.

More likely to do with weak muscles or an imbalance not providing adequate support to the knee. What are you doing with your physio in terms of a rehab programme? Have you discussed these symptoms with the therapist?
Realistically you need to think in terms of 6 months or more (as you were on crutches for a time) to get back to where you were strength and condition wise pre op
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

Physio have gave me exercises to do which include sit to stands, up and down stairs, leg raises, exercises to bend knee and going on an exercise bike.

I think I am expecting too much too soon and not realising the long recovery period.

I have physio next week so will mention it then.

I have another two weeks off work which will mean 10 weeks in total. Not sure whether to go back to see how I get on or get signed off for a further 2 weeks.

Sounds good. Keep doing the exercises diligently as prescribed and ice after doing them to help with any swelling :)

See what the physio says. Can you arrange ''light' duties, part time etc?
