Knee fusion
« on: June 09, 2019, 12:48:38 AM »
Has anyone had a knee fusion as this is my 2nd last option, amputation being my last but won’t do that without trying the fusion first. Just wondering about recovery and driving.

Hi there,
I have a knee fusion, done with an intramedullary rod. I am very happy with the outcome. I drive a car with the gas pedal on the left, because the right knee is the fused knee. Driving is not a problem at all, you may just need to change the gas pedal if the right leg will be fused! Feel free to ask.
Since 2005: wear a legbrace to keep the knee straight. I have suffered from a rare syndrome.
Around 2008: knee is now ankylosed, but not bony fusion yet
December 2009: definite, surgical knee fusion with a long nail
