Septated Cyst lateral vastus
« on: April 05, 2019, 10:13:04 PM »
I have a small 20mm septated cyst at the junction of the lateral vastus/ rectus femoris muscle. . Too high for a mensical cyst but possibly  communicating with the suprapatellar bursae. It currently doesnít seem to cause any problems . I have leg pain which I believe is more to do with a hip bursitis. I have been offered surgery to remove the knee cyst but have never had a general anaesthetic and am very fearful about having an potentially unnecessary operation. Could it be the knee cyst causing pain from the hip to the ankle ? Is it worth trying the operation? Could cyst grow and become a problem or is it best left alone? Could it just disappear on its own? Thanks

I'd not have an operation for a cyst that isn't causing any clear and confirmed issues as all surgery carries risk and it's vital that the benefit outweighs the risk to a great degree which doesn't sound the case here. You don't have to a have a GA, if scared discuss other options with the anaesthetist if you go ahead

Find a knee/hip specialist physio and work with him or her for a few months to make sure all your muscles are balanced and working right, to resolve the bursitis, any IT band tightness, gluten weakness, hamstring and calve tightness etc. Also get your feet and gait checked

How old are you?
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up
