Hello, I fractured my patella 2.5 weeks ago. It was a vertical break near my joint, no other issues. No surgery or cast. It doesn't hurt when I walk regularly although it does hurt when I lift my leg and I do get tired easily. I don't need crutches. Using a splint.

Doctors have not specified that I should rest or stop walking, but everyone else has told me i should not be walking.

I had a horizontal break, non-displaced and was placed in a brace at 30 degrees max flexation.  The doctor said it was fine to walk on it.  I was not liking the crutches I was first given at urgent care, so I had switched to a cane.  He was fine with that as well.  Since the kneecap isnít a weight bearing bone while straight, you can get away with what they call ďwbatĒ (weight bearing as tolerated).  I was walking long casino floors a week after my break.  It wasnít fun, but it hasnít appeared to hamper my recovery.  My fracture is now completely healed (break was on Dec. w8, 2018), and I am 7 weeks into physical therapy.  Still having issues with steps/stairs, but my range of motion is good and I am determined to make it back to pre-injury condition.
