Swelling and pain 4 months post Lateral Release
« on: September 20, 2018, 04:03:38 AM »
Hi All,
It is now four months post left knee lateral release and arthroscopy for torn meniscus. One week after the first operation I had internal bleeding in the joint and required another scope to clean out all the blood. I finally have good ROM to about 115 degrees but cannot do a seated leg extension. There is a whole heap of pain under the knee cap and feels like the Patella is not tracking correctly. My quad is completely gone and won't activate. There is still a large amount of swelling but don't have pain, unless doing a leg extension. Surgeon didn't want me to get any injections or aspiration done. nothing seems to bring the swelling down. Any suggestions?

You clearly had a haemarthrosis which is a common complication of lateral release. The blood can set up irritation, leading to adhesions inside the joint cavity. These can turn into scar tissue so it is important to mobilise fully.
