G'day to all you lovely people,

First of all, hope everyone is well.

Now, a little about me. I tore my ACL when I was 14 and had it reconstructed at the same age using an allograft donated by my dad- awww. This held well but re-tore at 21 from a basketball jump gone wrong, and I didn't have it fixed again (never the right time). In the years following, I didn't hold back much and probably pushed my poor knee a little too hard given its unstable state. Now I am 26, and six weeks ago I sustained a bucket handle meniscus tear. Given that my bones had grown since being 14, my old screws were not optimally placed to re-use them for an ACL recon. Because of this, a week ago I had a meniscus repair, and had the screws taken out and filled with bone graft. I will have the ACL recon in 3 or 4 months.

Some questions:
- Has anyone gone through meniscus repair rehab- with or without the ACL?
- Any tips on what I should or shouldn't do?
- How did you feel during the first week doing your exercises?
- What can I expect regarding bruising and swelling?

Pretty much, I am feeling a little alone in the whole recovery aspect. I want to be vigilant with my physio, but at the same time I'm cautious of overdoing it and risking the integrity of the repair. Any tips, personal stories or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have a fantastic day or night :)

How is progress? Yes, I had a bucket handle tear to my lateral meniscus repaired years ago, and remember it very well!
I was on crutches for 2 months afterwards due to issues caused by having to wait 3 weeks for surgery with a locked knee.

I did lots of physio and didnt race recovery. In fact it was more than 12 months before I was back to decent activity sports.
I did lots of work at the gym to strengthen my quads and legs. That really helped me a lot.
Big bucket handle tear to lateral meniscus from sporting injury. Arthroscopy and meniscal repair carried out June 2004. sloooowwww recovery!!

2018 - torn medial meniscus in RH knee, partial extrusion. ongoing issues,
