MPFL Reconstruction - experiences? Recovery?
« on: February 04, 2018, 09:00:19 PM »

A bit of knee history: Iíve had 8 RK dislocations, varying from severe and needing medical intervention to minor and popping back in. My most recent on being in Oct 2017. Following that Iíve had an MRI, lots of physio and a referral to a specialist orthopaedic hospital.

The initial consultant referred me to the specialist ortho hospital for a trochleoplasty - I have type B trochlea dysplasia. The specialist I saw last week, and discussed that he was against the trochleoplasty as further analysis of my MRI shows a late presenting groove laterally, which is where my knee cap sits. He also picked up some damage under the knee from multiple knee dislocations. He did some physicals tests and only picked up that I have issues going from straight to 20/30 degrees - then my knee goes into the late groove.

He advised the best option is an MPFL recon - obviously I am relieved to not need the trochleoplasty but am wondering what the MPFL recovery and others experiences are like!

Any info is much appreciated!!
