MCL? MRI? WWYD?
« on: January 26, 2018, 03:53:19 PM »
Hi,
I fell on the medial side of my left knee playing ultimate Frisby 13 weeks ago.  There was a popping sound, but not much pain initially.  I stopped playing that day.  The next day I got a bit of swelling, not much.  Over the next couple of weeks, I had pain when laying in bed, during sitting, and when squatting.  Also some clicking when going up and down stairs.  I continued doing some light activity over those weeks, and it seemed to get worse.  So then I stopped activity, got some PT and scheduled ortho apt.  The dr said he thought it was just an mcl sprain.  However, I continued having pain inside the knee joint, which I did not have when I sprained my other mcl a few years ago.
Now, at 13 weeks out, there is still some pain on the medial side of the knee sometimes.  There is no more pain inside knee joint, yay!  The knee also just feels "full" after I run or jump.  The dr. now wants me to do an mri since it still isn't completely better.
Would you all recommend that?  Or do you think this is within the rang of normal for an mcl injury?
Thanks for your help!

Id get the MRI if a knee specialist is recommending one. What does he think is the issue? Even seemingly minor Knee injuries can take ages to resolve. If access to the MRI is an issue, give it a few more months and work with the physiotherapist to regain muscle balance and strength. Maybe also avoid running and jumping and stick to low impact like Cycling and swimming
How old are you?
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15

Thanks for your thoughts.  I am 34 yo.  I am not sure what Dr. thinks the issue is.  He spent 30 seconds with me in the last apt.  I can get an mri, but the insurance is making me get an X-ray first.  It just ends up being a lot of money and time spent.
Thanks!
