advice needed post microfracture, capsular release
« on: January 15, 2018, 04:44:01 PM »
I had microfracture & capsular release 4 months ago. I am still have a lot of pain under the patella and tremendous instability. I couldn't run or jog if I tried. My PT is unable to work much on strengthening my quad bc of the pain under knee cap. I tried to move a kids toy with my foot and had extreme pain. Forgive me I don't know the name but when sitting with my knee at 90 deg I can't straighten my knee out and straight up.  All things I could do before. The microfracture was a surprise.  I was told he was going in to remove scar tissue. I would NEVER do this surgery again. I have 3 young kids that I can't keep up with and it has been a disaster.  My PT thinks something is a miss. Anyone else have such pain under the patella at 4 months? I have a dr apt but curious as to anyone else's experience. My job depends on me being physically active and I am very concerned.  I can't be gimpy forever.

Was the MF done also under the patella?
MF is a rough recovery especialy in that area. Take it slow. I just had debridement via key-hole surgery, and for me it took a year to get some fibro cartilage in the hole. I didn't jog for over 10 mths and when I tried is still hurts. Hence, I went back for another surgery...

Medial femoral Condyle is the knobbly bit at the bottom of your thigh bone. There are two medial (inside) lateral (outside) as you look at the front of the leg

Unfortunately not everyone will develop fibrocartilage (sort of scar cartilage) from the microfracture so you might want to consider consulting a cartilage expert about other (potentially better) repair options if it doesn’t fill in

Good luck :)

Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

fibro is hard to spot on an MRI @ 4 mths. All OS'-es I spoke suggest to wait at least a year to see the effects of MFX.

If it is on the patella you can weigthbear from day one. Only limit your flexion but you knee is swollen anyway. I would not be too concerned about it
