Quadriceps Tendon Repair and Scar Tissue
« on: December 16, 2017, 02:35:12 PM »
In October I tore my quad tendon completely walking down the stairs. Had surgery a week later and it has now been seven weeks post op. Strength is gaining OK but I have trouble bending my knee. Even with all of the PT exercises I'm doing up to six times a day I can't get the bend beyond 50 degrees. It just locks up. Therapist and the protocol both say I should be past 90 by now.

I'm fearing scar tissue build up. I am an athlete and want to regain full ROM. Has anyone who has had quad tendon repair done had the surgeon go in clean up scar tissue? When was that done? How long was the recovery?

Thank you for any advice.

Hi Rugbyguy

Welcome to KneeGuru - Immediate question - ask your PT has he/she seen this type of injury before - have doubts - in practice, once you come out of your cast or brace after 6/8 weeks, your ROM will be about 35/45 ROM - the next milestone will be about 90ROM at 12/14 weeks - best advice - listen to your knee - patience and DON`t push it.
The tendons needs to heal.   Ask questions - read previous on

I know this isn't going to help but have noticed that many victims of quad tendon rupture are put in a cast.  That wasn't my case I was just given a brace which was nice as I could start doing easy exercises 14 days after surgery.  I did have a complete rupture.
