Quad firing pattern and Chondromalacia Patella
« on: October 15, 2017, 04:58:42 PM »

I am new here so im not sure if this is the correct place to post.

I have Chondromalacia Patella in my right knee (diagnosed via MRI) and ive been trying to get rid of it by strengthening legs / glutes etc for almost a year now.  What i have noticed is that when i contract my quads they fire in a different sequence on my right leg to my (good) left one. It seems the VMO fires before the rest and then the other muscles take over and pull my kneecap laterally.  I have took a video to show you below.

Could this be causing the Chondromalacia? and if so how can i combat this?

Thanks in advance

Never hard of such a thing Have you seen a knee specialist? Has your tracking and muscle balance been assessed by a physio knowledgeable on patella femoral syndrome (chondromalacia patella is a symptom not a diagnosis per se). Or are you rather self diagnosing from the web?

Get a back to basics exercise programme from your physio. You won't get rid of the cartilage softening most likely but you might be able to reduce the inflammation that causes the pain and the softening and correct the tracking to stop it getting worse.

Have a look at the pages in the patella primer in the information portfolio linked above

Hey there I'm currently in your exact position, my vmo contracts before the rest of my quads - therefor my patella tracks/tilts medially, would love a reply from you how youre coping with it and yeah, couldn't acces ur video but would love 2 see it.
