bilateral quadriceps tendon rupture
« on: October 05, 2017, 06:38:10 PM »
I'm  so glad I found this site. Tons of very helpful information.

I tore both quad tendons doing fron squats at the gym on 9/1/17.  It  will be 5 weeks post op on 10/6.

I'm just curious if anyone with a bilatteral  tear can share their expererience with driving. My surgeon says I can drive with my braces unlocked ( only for driving) but I'm hesitant to give it a try.

Also, what have you found to be the best way to cover your braces while showering? I tried some cast covers but they were to tight to get over the clips on my braces. Thinking of the trash bag route now..

hi Vinny,

Welcome to the club.  I ruptured both of mine almost 4 years ago.  I was driving roughly 6 weeks after my surgery with my Dr's permission.  I don't remember what degree the Bledsoe Braces were set at when I was allowed to drive again but there were not fully unlocked.  I was driving a car with an automatic and I would imagine a manual to be a bit more challenging.

As far as showering I was allowed to remove my braces for this and was good to go after 4 weeks.  The 1st 4 weeks I had immobilizers on and taking a shower would have been impossible.   Best shower I ever had in my life though.

Good Luck and Best Wishes.

So you were allowed to stand in the shower without braces at 4 weeks?

I couldn't stand.  I had a shower chair to sit on.  At this point I couldn't lift my legs to step over the side of the tub.  I had to sit on the chair and swing my legs over.

Good Luck and be patient.  This recovery is quite the adventure.

5 weeks today and I took my first shower. I did sponge baths up this point. It was a little scary at first, but it was the best shower of my life.

I did the grabage bag thing. The key is to put a small towell around the top of the brace..actually insert it into and around the top of the brace then put the bags on and tape, tape , tape.  I cut holes in the bottom of the bags so my feet were out then inserted the bottom of the bags under the bottom of the braces. I was worried about slipping if I ws standing on the bag.
