I had a operation on my knee back in 2013 and had a lateral facetectomy but my doctor performed a old version of the operation (or as i believe) where he used a open arthrotomy and a saw to do the op. He also in this op removed my medial and lateral plica (you can see the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyPzxaN0rk4) basically just cut through it and removed it i believe because the saw would have chewed it up anyway :) i have not checked with him on that but there is a arthoscopy version of this op where a bur is inserted and removes the facet.

Unfortunatly i wasnt well enough to research these details so i got the dodgy op.

My question is has anyone had thier plica replaced?

To my knowledge some people have plicae and some dont. For me, i had a plica which extended from the medial side down underneath the bottom of the kneecap where the fat pad is to the lateral side.

Now i have these two knots (tight feeling) that are on the medial and lateral side that sit level with the lowest part of the patella where the fatpad is. Its no biggy but to me it is quite significant as now i constantly question alot of my movement when especially traversing around, consious of what you are doing and it kind of gets caught at its worse. As a result of this and other knee problems i cannot jog anymore as my hip pain flares up.

I am wanting a allograft, and thought, this may be possible to join back up atleast some of the plica across my knee when the operation happens.

I donít think a plica can be replaced? Why would you want to as itís not needed (and can be a source of issue hence often removed). Thereís some info on plica in the learning portfolio if you use the search function

Whatís a facetectomy? Why was it done? Fracture?

Have you focused your physio on ensuring that the kneecap is tracking and sitting correctly and not catching the fatpad? Itís also important to manage any fatpad swelling (esp in the arthritic knee), a patella specialist physio here advises ice massage

Yep done the search function.. i only have not read the downloadable pdf by one of the drs (think its dr blond) and i have read you do not need it either..

But looking at my vid im not so sure as the plica joins to the retinaculum you can see and all the other structures in the joint capsule. I am hoping my problem is scar tissue but i highly doubt it as i have scaring all around my knee where the plica was, and, has been removed.

I simply want to know if anyone, has had thier plica, replaced or atleast parts of it replaced.

Not all plica are the same and, in my knee it was a prominent structure.

No I think its tricky because as far as I have found people say you don't need it. But the whole pull in my knee is out now, getting pulling feeling cross my knee and tight spots.

That is my next step, and perhaps returning to my previous dr will tell me why he did what he did and what he thinks he actually removed.

I need to study the synovium more as its seems bit complicated and like you said they just don't replace them once they're gone. I have also read the synovium and synovial sheath is used for communication across the knee so..
