I can't bend my right knee fully. What might be the reason?
« on: April 28, 2017, 11:31:06 AM »
Hello,

What are the possible reasons that one cannot bend his/her knee fully?

Ps: I have a history of long term patella related problems. It is chondromalacia I think. Does it cause such a problem? I have also some kind of meniscus degeneration but it was not classified as a tear. I didn't have any operation on my knees.

Swelling blocking the bending, pain inhibition, meniscus issues as you say, ligament damage (have you injured the knee?). Could be rough cartilage at the back of the kneecap and/or the trochlear groove

What does the doctor /Physio think?

Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

I have seen a lot of doctor for knee pain but I didn't mention about this bending issue. I was only concerned about the pain. After I broke my fibula a year ago all the pain has gone. This is a phenomenon that I can't understand still.

Scar tissue? Have you had an MRI?

No scar tissue. As I mentioned I didn't have any operations.

MRI show a meniscus degeneration. Doctors didn't recommend an operation for that.

You could have scar tissue from the broken bone? Or was that at ankle?
You can develop scar tissue from trauma or overuse too, not just surgery

If it is the frayed degenerate meniscus blocking the joint from bending you may need an op as leaving it could mash up the meniscus more (what happened to me, my knee was also locked and wouldn't straighten because of the trapped meniscus). Get it checked

Yes, I broke the tip of the fibula on my ankle. Lateral malleol.

I didn't know I might have scar tissue due to overuse. I will make a research for it.

Yes overuse can damage tissues which could lead to scarring

I suspect it's the meniscus tho
