Hi Guys

I broke my knee 22 years ago into the joint and when reconstructed it was reset slightly wrong (unbeknown at the time). 8 years ago it became areal problem. We tried stem cell MACI IMPLANT but unfortunately the mechanics of the knee were out and stem cells broke down after 6 months. In hindsight the mechanics of the knee that were out broke down the healthy cartilage of the patellofemoral part of the knee, so the stem cells did not have a chance!!!
I then got offered the chance of a high tibial osteotomy to correct the mechanics of the knee, I got the op and after things settled I got no pain from my knee other than the pain from the screws/plate in the knee. Needless to say I was over the moon, I was swimming a mile a day, using the cross trainer for upto an hour  lost loads of weight and felt great!!! After a year and a half I opted to get the metal screws/plate removed from my knee as work offshore and caused discomfort. I got the operation and straight away my knee started hurting again, needless to say i was devastated I m only working 2 days a week and if I do to much have to lay on the couch for days until the swelling subsides.
I have been to see my surgeon and he is putting the camera in to have a look but I know the problem is missing articular cartilage between the femur ant patella on the medial side of the patellofemoral part of the knee.

Has anyone else had the MACI/stem cell treatment on the medial side of the patellofemoral part of the knee??? Good or bad they could kindly share with me please? I m at a loss as to where things are going and love to hear from anyone who has had this treatment please!!??  Thank you kindly in advance for anyone replying and good luck to anyone suffering they can improve!!!

I had it on the patella and the trochlear groove. I've had good results so far (about 2.5 years out). It did require a boat load of PT and working outside of PT to get things back. But I'm working on handsprings, drop jumps and the like.

Steve: You might find this of interest. More cutting edge than MACI

Might be a clinical trial or private treatment only, rather than more widely on NHS

Otherwise, you could look into single compartment joint replacement (more invasive but more tried and tested). The Oxford group are pioneers in PKRs

Sorry Yes Stanmore. They have been great there but The surgeon who did my arthroscopy last time said I need a part knee replacement and wouldnt do a Cartilage implant. I m only 41 so going to pay to get one as had my knee correctly aligned since last time I had one it feels much better and think its got a far better chance to work. How are you ATM?
